Dr. Wanglin YAN is a professor, Faculty of Environmental Information Studies, Head of Program for Environmental Innovators, Graduate School of Media and Governance, Keio University, Japan. He graduated at Wuhan Technical University of Surveying and Mapping and received his Doctor Degree at the Graduate School of Engineering, the University of Tokyo. Dr. Yan is a board member of Geographic Information System Association, and member of research steering committee of Geographic Survey Institute of Japan. Dr. Yan’s research fields cover Geo-informatics for urban and regional environment, planning for sustainable development, climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction. He has studied the desertification and ecosystems in Tibet and Mongolia Plateau with local universities and international/local NPOs. In last decade, Dr. Yan has worked on participatory post-disaster reconstructions after catastrophes. He had led the international project for the Ground Design of Post-disaster Reconstruction of Dujianyan City after Sichuan Wenchuan Earthquake in 2008. He has also initiated collaborative projects with international scholars, NPOs, and local governments for the post-3.11 reconstruction of Tohoku Japan. He has published a series of papers and books on urban environment, GIS and Remote Sensing, resilience and adaptation to climate change and disaster risks.
